York Group RDA needs a new horse to hug this winter. A replacement pony is required by March for children to ride. Sadly we are looking for a replacement as pony “Cassie” recently passed away.
York Group riding for the Disabled provides therapeutic Riding sessions for children and adults. The riders don’t see it as therapy. Just great fun.
Pony “Cassie” is sadly missed after being loved by her many riders for over 25 years. PSUK are helping to raise funds towards buying her replacement and future care costs.
RDA ponies are specially selected. They have to be steady enough for the most limited riders but have enough “go” for the more able and experienced.
Riding is wonderful therapy for the children. The motion of the pony challenges under used muscles of torso and legs. Balance, posture and confidence are all improved. Wheelchair users, used to looking up all day, get a fresh view of the world when mounted and all riders get much delight in receiving awards of a rosette or certificate.
According to the abilities of each rider they are taught the names of the tack and parts of the pony. For some the chance to groom or lead in the pony at the end of a lesson bond animal and rider even closer.
RDA’s national slogan says, “It’s what you CAN DO that counts!” Please help York group to deliver the service next Spring, It’s what you CAN GIVE that counts!
You can donate direct or if you are doing an activity for charity why not open your own sponsor page for our wonderful cause?
